Also called False White Indigo or Prairie False Indigo, this member of the pea family can be a nice addition to landscaping.  It makes a nice height and color combination with Perennial Lupine and Wild Columbine. This species can take 2-3 years to flower if grown from seed, but pays off with erect clusters of white flowers on the ends of branches. It prefers moist, heavier soils in valleys, roadside ditches, prairie fields, and alongside sreams. It is the host plant of the Wild Indigo Dusky Wing Butterfly.  When plants mature the stems will break loose from the root system and roll in the wind scattering seed from the attached pods.
