About Buckwheat

Extremely rapid growth makes buckwheat a viable source for short windows and makes it excellent at smothering and choking out weeds.  It is a very good mid-summer soil conditioner as it produces 2-3 tons of dry matter over a 6-8 week period.  Attracts beneficial insect species and is a good nectar source in the morning hours for honeybees.  Buckwheat has been reported to increase phosphorus availability to following crops.  Not good for compacted, drought prone, or excessively wet soils.
