About Dotted Gayfeather

The Dotted Gayfeather is a perennial with long lasting blooms during August through October. The forage quality of this wildflower is rated fair to good for sheep and wildlife such as deer and antelope. The Native amaericans would harvest the large tap root from this plant during the Spring while it was sweet for food and would dry the plant to use for tea. 

This wildflower grows best in dry, coarse soils and full sun or patial shade.
